Dear Occupier

Camden Street / Oakley Square: improvement works planned from 14 November

I am writing to let you know that we are planning to carry out works on the A400 Camden Street
/Oakley Square, between the junctions of Camden Road and Eversholt Street, from 14 November 2016.
The road safety improvements will support the trial of a 20 mph speed limit for 18 months on Camden Street and Oakley Square (see p.2 for more information about this trial). The works will include widening the cycle lane on Camden Street, resurfacing Oakley Square and installing coloured surfacing at a number of junctions in the area.

During the works, a series of temporary traffic management measures will be needed. You will find more details below.

Overnight lane and road closures from 14 November

The works are planned between 14 and 27 November. The following temporary traffic management changes will apply as a result:

Surrounding roads may be busier as a result of these works. Please consider alternative routes and allow more time for your journeys through the area.

For live road travel updates, please visit tfl.gov.uk/trafficnews or follow @TfLTrafficNews on Twitter.

Please note that while every effort will be made to complete the works as planned, poor weather may mean that the resurfacing will need to be rescheduled at short notice.

Bus passengers

While Camden Street is closed, bus route 46 will be temporarily diverted via Camden Road, Bayham Street and Crowndale Road. Bus stops J (Georgians Street) and H (Oakley Square) will also be temporarily suspended and buses will use existing stops along the diversion.

Pedestrians

Footways and pedestrian crossings will remain open wherever possible, although some temporary closures may apply. Any closures will be clearly signed, while pedestrian access to properties will not be affected.

Please visit tfl.gov.uk/bus/status or follow @Tfl_BusAlerts on Twitter for the latest bus updates.

Working hours

The working hours outlined above have been agreed with the London Borough of Camden. We apologise in advance for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience while these improvements are completed.

Trial of 20 mph speed limit on Camden Road and Oakley Square

As outlined above, the road safety improvements will support the trial of a 20 mph speed limit on Camden Street and Oakley Square. The aims of the trial are to:

  • Reduce casualties, particularly those involving pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists
  • Make walking and cycling around the area safer and more convenient
  • Improve the area for those that live, work and spend time there

During the 18-month trial, feedback on the scheme can be sent to DPRoadSafety@tfl.gov.uk.
At the end of the trial period, vehicle speeds, traffic flows and bus journey times will be analysed and compared to similar surveys completed before the reduced speed limit was introduced. The results will determine whether the 20 mph speed limit will be permanently instated.
