March 2014

Dear Royal Mail Customer

I am writing to you about important changes to postal services in North West London. A company called TNT Post UK is now collecting, sorting and delivering mail to addresses in North West London postcode areas. This could include your mail. Your Royal Mail postman is therefore no longer wholly responsible for your postal service.

TNT is a competitor to Royal Mail and is able to choose where and when to deliver mail. Generally, it delivers ‘every other day’ to households and isn’t required to meet regulated standards for delivery. It collects directly from businesses and does not have post boxes to accept mail from the public for delivery.

By comparison, Royal Mail provides a mail collection and delivery service to all parts of the UK: 29 million addresses, six days a week, at a standard price – no matter where you post from and to. In your area, 80% of households say they want a six-day-a-week service, whoever delivers their mail.

Royal Mail - Delivering in your community

Royal Mail, which operates to one of the highest regulatory requirements of any postal services provider throughout the EU, reports on its performance each quarter. In the NW and HA postcode areas. Royal Mail met its cumulative first class mail target
of 93% of mail delivered the following day according to the most recently available independent research for 2013-4. Royal Mail’s competitors are not required to meet regulated standards for delivery.

In North West London*, Royal Mail:

• Delivers mail six days a week to nearly 400,000 homes and businesses
• Collects mail from over 2,500 post boxes and business collection points
• Employs 1,350 postmen and women ‘to provide a six-day-a-week collection and delivery service

Royal Mail is working hard to protect your six day a week service by delivering one of the largest industrial modernisation programmes in the UK in recent history. We are working hard to ensure we keep improving our service to you.

Yours sincerely,

Stephen Cameron,
Operations Director
